Wow, I haven’t written a blog in quite some time and things have changed a bit here at Settling In With Baby. I am still knee deep in finishing up my certification as a Postpartum Doula and should be done by next month. It has been my ‘labor of love’ as I dove deep into finding ways to support new moms and families. I am where I need to be.
With that being said I want to expand Settling In With Baby to include Childbirth Education Classes as well. I have taught Childbirth Education classes in the Valley for the last 17 years. I was actually hired to run the Childbirth Education Program back when we delivered babies at Inland Valley. (That was long ago!) I have a nursing background and spent about 12 years as a floor nurse. As an RN I primarily worked with mothers and babies with my absolute love being a Postpartum Nurse.
If you don’t already know I am still teaching 3 classes at Rancho Springs Medical Center. I teach the Childbirth Prep Express, the Newborn Care Class and a Comfort For Labor Class. I will continue to teach those classes for moms that want a “hospital – based” class but I am excited to announce that as of April 2018 I will also be offering private Childbirth Classes at New Life Ultrasound in Murrieta. If you haven’t been there you must go see. It’s super cute and the whole experience is amazing from the moment you walk in the door until you get a peek at your little angel. It has a gentle and sweet feel about it
I have an adorable little office that is cute and it’s all about birth and babies. My office hours will vary week by week but if you want to stop by and say hi just let me know and I’ll make sure I’m there.
My plan at this point is to offer an Early Pregnancy Class for those that are just starting their journey into parenthood as well as a few different formats of Childbirth Education Classes. I will also have a Newborn Care Class and a Comfort Class. More classes will come in time.
I am also using my office to meet with prospective Doula Families. One of the best ways to “Settle In” as a family is to hire a Postpartum Doula. As your doula, I meet with the family once before baby arrives to see how I can best help support mom, her partner and the entire family. Sometimes it’s just listening and validating moms experience and other times I am hands on helping mom learn how to take care of baby. I also help with simple meals and snacks so that mom can focus on loving and caring for her newborn. I offer physical and emotional support during this transition time. I help women step into their roles as mothers with confidence and satisfaction. With that being said, I only take one to two families per month so that I have greater availability.
